Anxiety and Acupuncture

Over the past few months I have seen an increase in the number of clients coming in with anxiety. Symptoms may include restlessness, insomnia, fearfulness, and a whole host of other symptoms depending on the individual and on the severity of the condition.

Acupuncture and herbal medicine can be an effective treatment for the symptoms of anxiety for many people. Of the hundreds of acupuncture points I use weekly, there are many that are considered calming points in the classic Chinese medicine texts. These points used in combination with points to address each client’s personal constitution can provide help to calm the emotions and assist in getting restful sleep.

One of these points is called Yintang. Yintang is located just above the nose midway between the inner edge of the eyebrows. This area is commonly referred to as the third eye in many traditional cultures. I have found this point to be an effective point to calm agitation and to soothe restlessness. Yintang has been named the ‘happy point’ by one of my clients who benefits from its calming effects.

There are many other acupuncture points that can also be used as well. Each client receives a specific point combination to balance their own mind, body, and spirit.
